We have started collecting pennies!

Carly has a bag full.

Everyone is anxious to count 5 groups of 10.

We have a lot of pennies and we haven't even advertised yet. This class has lots of cash.

Thank you Jessica for bringing more penny rollers!

Tunisia, Ukraine, India and Peru

Fishing for Pennies  Total to date: $172.00!!! Thanks to Kim Beck for adding up all our rolls. We are looking for a wagon so we can haul them to the bank! 17 200 pennies are heavy!

We have decided to raise money to buy a fishing net for a poor community. Fishing can provide a stable and nourishing source of protein and livelihood for a community. Proper equipment like fishnets and the cultivation of healthy fish stocks make this possible. We were trying to collect 1500 pennies to buy one net and we have surpassed our goal already. Thanks to everyone who brought pennies! We are going to see if people in other classes would like to get rid of their penny stashes too!. We will be going to the classrooms this week to promote our cause. The first picture looks a little like a pile of sausages but it's a pile of rolled pennies.

We are reading about what life is like in the four countries that we are studying this year.  We are comparing similarities and differences between these countries and Canada.
