Writing

Point of View November/December

We are continuing to read different stories and discuss point of view. We are working towards writing our own version of a well known fable or fairy tale from the point of view of another character. We are first learning how to use dialogue quotations, paragraphing and how to begin our sentences in a variety of ways. We really enjoyed writing our pet letters and 'pet'tionaries, and I think that this next writing assignment will be a lot of fun!

Reading

December

We are continuing to work torwards A.R. goals. We have an ongoing assignment for each student to read 20 minutes every night.

We are continuing to practice reading strategies that good readers use: making connections, visualizing, inferring, asking questions, and predicting. We are also working on being a fluent oral reader.

We have started to read "The Dog Who Thought He Was Santa" by Bill Wallace together as a class. We will be periodically writing in reading logs to help us practice good reading skills.
